HISTORY

Foundation for the Development of ITU was established in 1993 to serve the common good, especially Istanbul Technical University. To realize its purposes our Foundation has received a tax exemption in 1998 via the decision of the Council of Ministers dated May 8, 1998 and numbered 98/11124.

Since its establishment our Foundation has made many material and moral services to İTÜ, has made all kinds of investments that has constituted the infrastructure of the reform programs carried out at the university, with comprehensive donations from its graduates and ITÜ friends and continues to do so. During its establishment years it has directed the resources it has created through mostly donations to the University, since the beginning of 2000s it has directed the resources it has created through its subsidiaries, to primarily Academicians and Students, in line with the development plans of the University, it contributes over 5.000.000 TL (5 Million) annually.

With the donations it has provided, the Foundation for the Development of ITU built and put into operation schools at ITU campuses, from preschool to high school, for the children of graduates and members. İTÜ Development Foundation Schools, established by our foundation in 2000 and 100% shares of its shares owned by our Foundation; are Sedat Üründül Kindergarten, Natuk Birkan Primary School and Middle School, Ekrem Elginkan High school and Beylerbeyi Kindergarten, Primary School and Middle School. Again, with the help of comprehensive donation programs, the modernization and restoration of Gümüşsuyu Student Dormitory in ITU campuses, 12 Gölet Dormitory, Ferhunde Birkan, Zeynep Birkan, Ayşe Birkan, Vadi Dormitories, Gök and Arıoğlu Dormitories and Alumni Dormitories were provided to our University. Arı Kültürel AŞ, where Kültürel A.Ş. has 48% ownership and is an indirect subsidiary of our Foundation; operates in total 17 dormitories of our university. Other dormitories have been transferred to the University.

İTÜ ARI Teknokent has been founded in 2002 at İTÜ Ayazağa Campus by our Foundation. Our Foundation has 66% of its shares. ITU ARI Teknokent provides space allocation in an area of 624,318.97 m2, with 10 buildings, 60.000 m2 of leasable area in total, to companies engaged in R&D via university-industry cooperation, and supervision services to these companies within the scope of 'Technology Development Zones Law'. ARI Technopolis continues its success in the national and international levels, as one of Turkey's most important Technopolis in research and innovation fields.

Foundation for the Development of ITU has implemented a work model that provides solidarity and coordination between Istanbul Technical University and every organization with a legal entity, whose name and purpose includes ITU, and has achieved its purpose in this context and ensured a great solidarity between Istanbul Technical University members, with the participation of friends of ITU.
